I didn’t plan to get into life insurance. In fact, I was skeptical of it — just like many of the people I speak with today. But everything changed a few years ago.

At 34, my wife encouraged me to get covered “just in case.” I didn’t think I needed it, but I went ahead with it to give her peace of mind. I had no idea how important that decision would be.

A short time later, I was diagnosed with leukemia and told I had two weeks to live unless I started treatment immediately.

Thanks to that policy, I had coverage when it mattered most. But I also learned something painful — I had been sold a complex and expensive policy that wasn’t clearly explained. I thought I understood it. I didn’t. And because of my health history, I was now uninsurable and stuck with a plan I wouldn’t have chosen if I’d had better guidance.

That experience changed my life — and my mission.
